John Lopez, Daniel Motley and Fabian Castillo Injured in Highway 101 Crash
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA (July 15, 2021) – A crash injured John Lopez, Daniel Motley and Fabian Castillo on Highway 101 near El Capitan.
The California Highway Patrol identified the three Lompoc residents as victims of the fatal wreck which occurred on Thursday morning.
CHP said John Lopez III, 31, was driving a 2017 Honda Accord south on Highway 101 with Daniel Motley, 28; and Fabian Castillo, 36, at the time.
The incident began when a Ford Expedition was traveling about 70 mph north on the highway. For an unknown reason, its driver lost control of the car.
The SUV went across the lanes and the unpaved median, and into the southbound lanes. It crossed from the right-hand lane into the left-hand lane of northbound Highway 101 and hit a Ford F-450 pickup.

The Santa Maria Times and Noozhawk wrote that the accident took place at about 7:55 a.m. near the El Capitan State Beach. CHP confirmed that two passengers of the SUV died at the scene.
John Lopez, Daniel Motley and Fabian Castillo sustained minor injuries as a result of the Highway 101 crash. Firefighters soon treated them at the site.
Paramedics took four other people to the hospital with moderate to major injuries. CHP shut down the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near El Capitan for several hours following the crash.
The cause of the tragic wreck is still under investigation.
