Motorcyclist, 23, Killed; Driver Arrested DUI, Hit-and-run
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2024) — John Ray Akers, 23, of Hesperia, died in an Apple Valley motorcycle crash involving an alleged drunk driver Monday on Bear Valley Road.
The deadly crash occurred around 3:52 p.m. on Nov. 4th, at Iroquois Road near the Burger King restaurant. according to Victor Valley News Group.
The young man was riding his black Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle westbound on Bear Valley Road. Meanwhile, an alleged DUI driver in a black Hyundai Genesis was heading eastbound and turned left in front of the bike.
The rider crashed into the car and badly injured in the crash. Meanwhile, the intoxicated driver fled the scene without stopping to help him.
The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station and Apple Valley Fire Protection District sent emergency crews to the scene where they attempted to save the motorcyclist, but he died on scene.
Hit-and-run Driver Arrested
Meanwhile, the driver involved in the crash abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, but was later arrested by police.
The suspect was identified as 30-year-old David Richard Rolph of Apple Valley, the report said.
He is facing multiple charges including hit-and-run, DUI causing bodily injury, DUI, vehicular manslaughter, and child abuse.
The crash remains under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T.).
John Ray Akers was one of nine brothers and four sisters, his father told Victor Valley News Group. He is also survived by his parents and step mother.
