Suspect Arrested in Deadly Crash on Chester Avenue in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 24, 2025) — John Ross died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident Wednesday on Chester Avenue in Bakersfield, but it didn’t take long for police to find and arrest the suspect, Bobby Lemons.
A 35-year-old driver in a white pickup truck reportedly struck and killed the man in a hit-and-run crash on the bridge in the 4200 block of Chester Avenue.

The Bakersfield Police Department reported the collision on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Upon arrival at the scene, police located the severely injured victim on a southbound sidewalk and a second man with minor injuries who was hit by debris. John Ross died at the scene and the second man was treated for minor injuries.
Authorities began investigating the crash and searching for the suspect’s older white pickup.
The Bakersfield Police Department’s Major Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) tapped into the Flock Safety camera system to locate the vehicle and eventually found it, along with the alleged hit-and-run driver.
Bobby Lemons was arrested the same day and booked into the Kern County Jail for felony hit and run resulting in death.
