Repeat DUI Driver, Ryan Trevino, Faces New Charges

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 15, 2024) – John Tarter, 78, of Fresno, died and two others were injured Saturday in a head-on crash with a suspected DUI driver on Millerton Road and Marina Drive in Fresno County.

The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13th, near Table Mountain Casino, according to ABC 30 News.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office released the victim’s name, along with the suspect in the alleged DUI crash who had two previous DUI convictions and a third case pending from October. The alleged suspect was identified as Ryan Trevino, 35.

Deadly Crash on Millerton Road in Fresno County

Police reported that Ryan Trevino was allegedly driving a blue 2016 Chevrolet Silverado recklessly as he traveled west down Millerton Road near Marina Drive. Authorities say his vehicle allegedly drifted across the solid double yellow lines into oncoming eastbound traffic and crashed into a white 2018 Toyota Tundra pickup truck driven by John Tarter.

Both John Tarter, his passenger and the suspect were injured in the crash. Paramedics transported Tarter to Lost Lake to meet up with an air ambulance, but he died before the could be airlifted. His passenger was transported to a hospital with major injuries.

Also, Ryan Trevino was seriously injured and taken to a hospital. It’s unknown if he has been officially charged for this collision, but the suspect has two previous DUI convictions including one in 2006 and a second in 2018. There is also a pending DUI for an arrest three months ago in October, according to Your Central Valley News. His mug shot is from the October arrest.

Under California law, a driver with a previous DUI conviction who later causes a death in another DUI crash may face murder charges.

The California Highway Patrol is heading up the ongoing investigation into Saturday’s crash.
