
John Vanderlinde hit-and-run Highway 140
John Vanderlinde, 52, Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Near Highway 140 and Cunningham
MERCED COUNTY, CA (April 1, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash seriously injured John Vanderlinde near Highway 140 and Cunningham Road in Merced County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 52-year-old Moreno Valley man as the victim of the accident which occurred on Tuesday night.
The incident happened on March 30 when John Vanderlinde was walking eastbound along Highway 140, west of North Cunningham Road. At the same time, a vehicle was gong the same direction.
CHP said the driver then struck John Vanderlinde for an unknown reason near Planada. According to The Merced Sun Star and Merced GW News, officers reported the crash at about 10:22 p.m. p.m.
Pedestrian Hit by Car Near Planada in Merced County
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found the pedestrian lying on the shoulder of the road. He suffered a major injury to his leg as a result of the collision.
An air ambulance took John Vanderlinde to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment. Meanwhile, the motorist did not stop to render aid and fled east on Highway 140 toward Mariposa.
CHP described the car as a white 2015 or newer Ford F250 or F350 pickup, possibly with dual rear wheels. The truck apparently sustained damage to the front passenger area and the passenger side mirror.
Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run suspect. Anyone with information can call the CHP Merced at 209-356-6600.
