EUREKA (July 21, 2017)- According to the Time-Standard, a deadly accident took place involving a motor scooter and a vehicle Tuesday, July 18th, at 3000 Broadway.
The incident was reported in the morning at 10:27 a.m. between a Chevy Silverado and a scooter ridden by John Williams, 70, of Eureka.
Eureka Accident on Broadway
Per the article, the driver of the Chevy made an unsafe turn after turning from northbound Broadway into a shopping center directly into the path of Williams who was riding his scooter on the sidewalk.
The collision caused grave injuries to the 70-year-old man who was rushed to a trauma center, where he tragically died a short while later.
No further details have been revealed at this time.
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the pickup truck will likely be held liable for making an unsafe turn into the path of the victim. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Did excessive speed or distracted driving play a role? Was the driver negligent in any other way? We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, the family of John Williams can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the at fault driver seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship.
