Johnny Guerra Killed in Apple Valley Pedestrian Accident on Kiowa Road

APPLE VALLEY, CA (May 27, 2026) — A 76-year-old Apple Valley man was the pedestrian killed Sunday night in a hit-and-run car accident on Kiowa Road in Apple Valley, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Johnny Guerra, 76, of Apple Valley, according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, to the area of Kiowa Road at Sandia Road following reports of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

When emergency personnel from the Apple Valley sheriff’s and fire departments arrived, Guerra was found at the scene suffering from fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the location, authorities said.

Investigators determined that Guerra was crossing Kiowa Road when the driver traveling north on Sandia Road struck him. The driver failed to stop and a search of the area failed to locate the person. It’s unknown what may have caused the crash, or whether impairment, speed, or visibility played a role.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the fatal incident.
