Marco Garcia, 34, Victim in Bakersfield DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Edison Highway
BAKERSFIELD (February 24, 2020) – Authorities detained the alleged DUI hit-and-run driver that killed a pedestrian on Edison Highway Sunday morning.
California Highway Patrol determined that 25-year-old Jonathan Lopez was under the influence of alcohol when the fatal February 23 crash occurred.
The incident began when Lopez was driving 2007 Chevrolet while a male pedestrian was crossing Edison Highway. It happened at around 12:35 a.m., just east of the Mount Vernon overpass.

According to Bakersfield Now and 23 ABC News, CHP said the man walked directly into the path of the Chevrolet. In the process, the car involved then struck him.
Paramedics responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified him as 34-year-old Marco Antonio Garcia.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Lopez did not stop to render aid and took off. Officers later found the Bakersfield man less than a mile away and arrested him on suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run.
