Fatal Shooting at North Park Elementary School
SAN BERNARDINO (April 11, 2017)- According to KESQ News, Jonathan Martinez, 8, has been identified as the child shot to death following an incident Monday morning at North Park Elementary School.

The incident took place Monday morning when a man identified as Cedric Anderson, 53, showed up at the elementary school and was granted access to one of the classrooms where he pulled a revolver and opened fire at his estranged wife who was a teacher at North Park.
Anderson’s wife identified as Karen Smith, 53, suffered fatal injuries after a total of eight shots were fired killing Smith and also Jonathan Martinez who had been standing behind Smith. Both Martinez and Smith were tragically pronounced dead inside the classroom.
A second student only being identified as a 9-year-old was also shot and injured but is, fortunately, going to survive as the student’s injuries and not life-threatening.
After shooting Smith, Martinez, and the 9-year-old, Anderson pulled the gun on himself and took his own life.
The classroom which was a special needs group had a total of 15 students including a combination of 1st to 4th graders.
Authorities were able to confirm that Anderson and Smith had only been married for a few months before their separation. Anderson was also a former military man and a habitual drug user, per CBS Los Angeles News.
The incident is under close investigation at this time as more details need to be collected in order to determine why the suspect chose to go through with this malicious attack.
