‘FULLERTON, Calif. (August 19, 2022) – Jonathan Ocampo, 21, of Anaheim, was arrested following a fatal, hit-and-run bicycle accident in Fullerton Thursday morning at Chapman Avenue and Ladera Vista Drive.

The motorist reportedly fled the scene of the crash, leaving Elfego Andrade, 67, to die at the scene. The crash occurred about 5:07 a.m. crash on August 18th, according to the Orange County Register.

Police and paramedics responded to the intersection and located the injured bicyclist, but the driver had fled the scene and left behind vehicle parts in the roadway.

The victim was reportedly hit from behind and thrown into a brick planter on the north side of the street, police said.

Paramedics transported the Elfego Andrade by ambulance to a local hospital, but sadly he died from his injuries shortly afterward.

Hit-and-run Driver Sought by Police is Arrested

Meanwhile, a witness had followed the suspect’s green 1999 Ford F-250 as it left the scene in a westbound direction on Chapman Avenue towards
Berkeley Avenue. The vehicle was reportedly missing a tire and driving on its rim, police said.

Eventually, the vehicle stopped near Delphine Place and Jacaranda Place. However, the suspect exited the pickup truck and ran away on foot.

On Thursday afternoon, the suspected hit-and-run driver of the Ford F-250, called the Fullerton Police Department Accident Investigators.

Authorities subsequently arrested Jonathan Ocampo on suspicion of felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
