CLOVIS, Calif. (June 1, 2023) – Jonathan Petty, 36, of Clovis, was arrested after he allegedly hit a person riding a bicycle on Herndon Avenue in a fatal crash near Locan Avenue.
The traffic accident occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31st, according to FOX26 News and a press release by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Dept.
The Clovis man was driving allegedly DUI when his white 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck struck the victim.
DUI Suspected in Fatal Crash on Herndon Avenue
The rider was thrown off the bicycle and onto the roadway. Paramedics responded and located the victim lying on the ground. However, despite life-saving efforts the cyclist died at the scene. The Fresno coroner has not released the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators were on the scene and suspected the driver from the pickup truck identified as Jonathan Petty was intoxicated.
Police arrested the suspect and booked him into the Fresno County Jail on charges of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter. Furthermore, the suspect has a previous misdemeanor DUI conviction from August 8, 2022 and was reportedly on probation at the time of the latest crash.
