Twentynine Palms Man, 22, Identified as Crash Victim
Desert Hot Springs, Calif. (May 20, 2024) — Jonathon Tucker, 22, of Twentynine Palms, died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 62 near North Indian Canyon Drive in Desert Hot Springs.
The deadly crash occurred at around 2:26 a.m. on May 16th, in Riverside County, according to reports by Z107.7 and the California Highway Patrol. The county reported some 14,744 injury and fatality collisions in 2021.
A Yucca Valley man was driving a Hyundai westbound on State Route 62 and made a left-hand turn towards N. Indian Canyon Drive. The Hyundai turned in front of an oncoming, eastbound Dodge, police said.
Upon impact, the Dodge kept traveling in an eastbound direction and crashed into a streetlight pole on the corner of the intersection.
Sadly, the young man driving the Dodge died at the scene. He was later identified as Jonathon Tucker by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner. Meanwhile, the driver of the Hyundai was treated for minor injuries.
Police closed down the eastbound lanes of Highway 62 for roughly two hours to investigate the fatal crash.
Finally, the California Highway Patrol’s Indio office is heading up the investigation and they do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
