Fatal Rollover Crash on Hwy 18; Police Searching for 2 Men Who Fled
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (August 9, 2018) — Jorge Leo Hernandez, 44, of Apple Valley, has been identified as the man who died in a collision Saturday night on Highway 18, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The collision took place about 10:07 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 18, just east of Navajo Road.
Hernandez was one of three occupants in a 1989 Jeep Cherokee that overturned in the roadway. The two other men got out of the vehicle and fled the scene after the collision. Meanwhile, Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s unknown at this time whether police ever located the two men who fled after they searched the area with a helicopter after the collision.
The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the incident.
At this time, we do not know all the facts about this case. It’s unknown whether or not Mr. Hernandez was a passenger or driver of the Jeep.
We extend our heartfelt prayers to his family at this difficult time.
In a case such as this one, there could be criminal charges filed against the at-fault driver if they fled the scene after a fatal crash. The family of the victim who died would have grounds to file a wrongful death claim to recovery their many losses. There could also be multiple parties responsible for this collision including an employer, an auto manufacturer or a government entity.
