Jorge Zamora, 24, ID’d as DUI Wrong-Way Driver in Cajon Pass Fatal Crash
CAJON PASS, CA (November 24, 2022) – Authorities detained Jorge Zamora after a fatal DUI wrong-way crash on the 15 Freeway in the Cajon Pass.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 24-year-old San Bernardino man was under the influence when the wreck took place on Saturday.
The incident began when Jorge Alberto Zamora was driving a Chevrolet Malibu north in the southbound lanes of the 15 Freeway in the Cajon Pass.
He was traveling the wrong-way and at high speeds in the lane closest to the center median. At the same time, a Honda Odyssey was going south two miles south of Oak Hill Road.
1 Killed, Several Injured in Wreck
CHP said Jorge Zamora then slammed into the Honda. The Sun and Victor Valley News wrote that the accident occurred on November 19 at about 1:13 a.m.
The passenger in the Odyssey, a 61-year-old San Diego woman, died as a result of the collision. The driver of the van survived the incident with moderate injuries.
Several other people ended up suffering from minor injuries following the wreck. The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP soon arrested Jorge Zamora on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI and DUI causing great bodily injury after the crash.
They booked him at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga in lieu of $250,000 bail. The cause of the Cajon Pass DUI crash is still under investigation.
