German Bicyclist Hurt in Oct. 15 Hit-and-run Crash
THE SEA RANCH, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2018) — A German bicyclist identified as Joschka Homann, 26, suffered major injuries two weeks ago when he was struck by a passing truck as he rode on Highway 1 in The Sea Ranch, according to the Press Democrat.
The pickup truck driver never stopped to help the victim, but was seen pausing prior to fleeing the scene.
Paramedics rushed the injured man to a hospital where he has remained for roughly two weeks. It’s unknown whether or not he will soon be released.
The hit‑and‑run crash took place about 11:50 a.m. on Oct. 15. Police say the bicyclist was struck by the pickup’s side mirror near Leeward Spur. Homann was thrown onto the highway and several good Samaritans stopped to help him. The side mirror was found on the ground near the accident scene and police are using it as evidence.
Witnesses reported the vehicle as a dark blue or black pickup with a flatbed, possibly pulling a white trailer.
Witnesses should call investigators at 707‑588‑1400.
Highway 1 Hit-and-run Investigation
Police are reviewing the evidence and any witness statements in an effort to locate the suspect driver who fled the scene. The investigation will consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of the vehicles, skid marks, and gouge marks.
We hope the man who was hurt has a full recovery.
