CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (Dec. 4, 2017) — Jose Burgos, 32, of Coachella was one of four people hurt when a CHP patrol car collided with a vehicle during a police pursuit.
The crash took place about 12:50 a.m. on Sunday morning near San Luis Rey Drive. The police officers were attempting to pull over a suspect in an SUV that was speeding westbound on Ramon Road. The suspect was lost, but the patrol car collided with a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by Burgos. The Dodge was attempting to turn left onto Ramon Road from San Luis Rey Drive. The patrol car overturned during the collision.
Burgos suffered serious injuries and a 29-year-old passenger in his vehicle had minor injuries. The two police officers suffered moderate injuries.
Paramedics rushed all four victims to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
The suspect who was being pursued escaped.
