Jose Castillo, 45; and Boy, 27, Killed in Fresno County Car Crash
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (May 2, 2021) – Jose Castillo and his son were killed after a DUI crash at Marks and North avenues in Fresno County.
The Coroner’s Office identified the 45-year-old Fresno man and his 7-year-old boy as the victims of the fatal wreck on Saturday night.
The incident happened on May 1 when Jose Castillo was driving Cadillac Escalade with his family in Fresno County. At the same time, a Dodge pickup was going north on Marks Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol said truck then ran a red light at the intersection with West North Avenue. The Dodge ultimately hit the Cadillac.
Jose Castillo and the 7-year-old ended up ejected from the Escalade and died as a result of the crash. The Fresno Bee and Your Central Valley reported the accident at around 8 p.m.
Woman, 3 Children Injured in Crash at Marks and North Avenues
Medical personnel rushed another juvenile from the SUV to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. The other three passengers of the Cadillac sustained minor injuries.
Officers described them as a 30-year-old woman, another 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl. Meanwhile, the pickup truck became fully engulfed in flames following the collision.
Officials took the male driver of the Dodge to the hospital with major injuries. His passenger, a 10-month-old girl, did not sustain any wound following the wreck.
CHP believed that the man was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the family. Authorities soon charged him with two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
They also arrested him on DUI causing bodily injury and death and child endangerment. The fatal Fresno County crash is still under investigation.
