Scooter Rider Run Over, Killed by Big Rig Truck
Otay Mesa, Calif. (February 28, 2023) – Jose Cisneros, 43, of Chula Vista, died following a possible scooter accident involving a big rig truck on La Media Road.
The collision occurred about 8:08 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19th, near Airway Road, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune News.
The victim was riding a Vespa-like motor scooter traveling on La Media when for unknown reasons he got run over by a semi truck.
Paramedics responded and located the rider lying on the ground. They noted the man suffered skull and rib fractures in the crash. However, they were unable to save him and he soon died at the scene.
Truck Hits Man Riding Scooter
A driver in a tractor trailer truck who exited eastbound State Route 905 reportedly called 911 to report the crash, the San Diego Medical Examiner said. He told authorities when he turned onto southbound La Media Road he saw the lights of the victim’s overturned motorized scooter on the east side of the northbound lanes of traffic, the report said.
The driver stopped and noted there was another tractor trailer stopped further ahead of him in the northbound No. 3 lane of La Media Road as well as a third tractor trailer that pulled up and stopped next to it. The driver told authorities the other two tractor trailers left as he approached the unresponsive man lying in the street next to a scooter.
Investigators with the San Diego Police Department continue to work on the case and will determine liability for the crash on La Media Road in Otay Mesa.
