Two Injured, One Killed in Crash on South Lake Road
TAFT, Calif. (March 30, 2022) — Jose Abel Espinoza, 24, of Maricopa, and Eminglio Hernandez, 38, of Taft, were both injured in a head-on crash on South Lake Road near Taft that killed a woman.
The two-vehicle crash occurred about 12:22 p.m. on March 28th, near Gardner Field Road just southwest of Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a woman driving a 2012 Acura was traveling eastbound on South Lake Road. Her vehicle reportedly veered over into westbound lanes and collided with a white 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck.
The crash happened roughly three miles east of Gardner Field Road and completely blocked the roadway, police said.
Paramedics responded and located the 31-year-old Taft woman who was driving the Acura lying on the right shoulder. Soon after their arrival, she died following the collision. Authorities believe she was not wearing a seat belt. Her passenger, Eminglio Hernandez, 38, of Taft, survived the crash with injuries.
Meanwhile, Jose Abel Espinoza, 24, of Maricopa, who was driving the pickup truck, suffered a serious injury. Paramedics transported both Espinoza and Hernandez to Kern Medical for further treatment.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine fault. The roadway reopened by 3:18 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
