Jose Gracida, 25, ID’d as Suspect in Fresno Fatal DUI Crash on Highway 99
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (December 3, 2022) – Authorities detained Jose Gracida after a fatal DUI crash on Highway 99 near Clovis Avenue in Fresno County.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 25-year-old Fresno man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck took place on Friday.
The incident began when Jose Lopez Gracida was driving a Toyota RAV4 north on Highway 99 in Fresno County. At the same time, a Mitsubishi Galant ended up blacked out in the middle northbound lane.
CHP said he failed to avoid the Mitsubishi and hit the rear of the car. The two crashed just north of Clovis Avenue and then went off the roadway.
1 Killed in Wreck
The cars came to a rest on the right shoulder. The Fresno Bee and Your Central Valley wrote that the accident on December 2 at about 11:10 p.m.
The Galant became fully engulfed in flames due to the impact of the collision. The driver of the Galant, a 28-year-old Selma resident, died at the scene.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. CHP believed that the Mitsubishi was involved in a prior incident before the Toyota struck it.
Meanwhile, Jose Gracida sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed the patient to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Officers soon arrested Jose Gracida on suspicion of DUI. The cause of the Fresno County DUI crash is still under investigation.
