Officer Rodolfo Tabares Injured in Firebaugh Crash at Highway 33 and Douglas
FIREBAUGH (September 17, 2019) – The alleged DUI driver in a crash that injured a police motorcycle officer at Highway 33 and Douglas Street Sunday has been identified.
Authorities said the incident on September 15 happened when 27-year-old Jose Morales Gutierrez was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Gutierrez then rear-ended Firebaugh Police Officer Rodolfo Tabares who was riding a motorcycle at Highway 33 and Douglas Street.

According to reports by The Fresno Bee and ABC 30 News, the impact caused the police officer to be thrown from his bike. The accident took place at around 8:30 p.m. in the intersection.
Officer Tabares suffered road rash and scrapes as a result of the wreck. Medical personnel rushed the victim to the hospital with apparent injuries to both his forearms and lower extremities.
Meanwhile, authorities determined that Gutierrez was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the collision occurred. Officials ultimately arrested the Mendota man on suspicion of DUI.
