
San Diego Man, 91, Struck and Killed in Crosswalk
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 28, 2025) — Jose Jesus Gutierrez Munoz, 91, of San Diego, was struck and killed last Thursday while crossing University Avenue and Marlborough Avenue in the Teralta West area of San Diego.
A driver in a pickup truck struck a pedestrian around 7:47 a.m. on Jan. 23rd, according to the San Diego Police Department and the medical examiner.
Police officers responded to the 4100 block of University Avenue and came upon the crash scene involving the 2019 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and the elderly an in a crosswalk, police said.
The man was walking in a northbound direction in a crosswalk at the intersection. The southbound Toyota pickup truck struck the victim in the 4000 block of Marlborough Avenue. The 29-year-old man driving the truck stopped and paramedics were called.
An ambulance took the pedestrian to a hospital where he was treated for a brain bleed, police said. However, the elderly man later died from his injuries at 10:11 a.m. the same day.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault.
