
Jose Guzman Jimenez, 53, ID’d as Suspect in Eureka Fatal Crash
EUREKA, CA (March 12, 2023) – Authorities detained Jose Guzman Jimenez after a crash that killed a pedestrian in Eureka.
Police identified the 53-year-old Eureka man as the suspect in the fatal collision which took place last week on Saturday.
The incident happened when Jose Guzman Jimenez was driving his car eastbound in the area of 5th and K streets in Eureka. At the same time, a pedestrian was walking south across 5th Street.
Police said for an unknown reason, he struck the person in the crosswalk. The Times Standard and KRCRTV News wrote that the accident occurred on March 4 at around 7 a.m.
Pedestrian Hit by Car
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene and found the victim hurt. The patient ended up suffering from serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel then rushed the pedestrian to the St. Joseph Hospital, where they died. The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Jose Guzman Jimenez did not stop to render aid and fled the area following the crash. They soon located the suspect vehicle in McKinleyville.
Officers arrested and booked him at the Humboldt County Jail for a violation of felony hit and run involving a death. The cause of the Eureka pedestrian crash is still under investigation.
