Fatal Crash Highway 101 Near Sarina Road
DEL NORTE, California (July 31, 2018) – Jose Isabl Soltero Heredia, 80, of Smith River, has been identified as the man who was killed Sunday in a car accident in Del Norte, according to a report by the Del Norte Triplicate.
Ramon Heredia, 37, and passenger Simona Heredia, 60, who were in the same vehicle as the deceased man, were both taken to hospital for treatment of minor to major injuries.
All three were riding a 1995 Honda Civic driven by Ramon Heredia that was rear-ended by a driver in a Buick Enclave SUV. The news report stated he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Sadly, he died at the scene. Ramon and Simona were both taken by ambulances to Sutter Coast Hospital.
The collision took place as the Honda was turning off of Highway 101. The vehicle that struck the Honda was traveling northbound at freeway speeds.
Mark Baker, 72, who was driving the Buick, and his passenger Sylvia Baker, 72, both of Brookings, both suffered no known injuries in the collision.
Traffic Accident Investigation
At this time, it’s unknown whether any mechanical problems factored into the cause of this collision. It’s unknown who had the right-of-way based on the facts presented. It’s unknown if drugs and or alcohol were factors. Police will ultimately decide who is at fault and liable for the financial losses of the other motorist and their passengers.
