Jose Juarez; 57, and Pamela Juarez, 56; Killed in Atwater Crash on Santa Fe Drive
ATWATER, CA (July 1, 2021) – A DUI crash killed Jose Juarez and Pamela Juarez near Santa Fe Drive and Spaceport Entry in Atwater.
The sheriff coroner’s office identified the Merced couple as the victims in the fatal collision which took place last week on Friday.
The incident happened when Pamela Juarez was driving a 2012 Honda west on Santa Fe Drive in Atwater with Jose Juarez as her passenger.
A 2012 Lexus ES350 traveling behind them struck the rear of their car. The California Highway Patrol said the two crashed near Spaceport Entry on June 25.
King Vanga, 20, Arrested DUI
The Honda spun out of control in the eastbound lanes of the road and then burst into flames as a result of the collision. The Lexus veered northwest, slammed into a chain-link fence and flipped over.
Jose Juarez, 57; and Pamela Juarez, 56; die at the scene. The Merced Sun Star and Merced GW News wrote that the crash occurred at about 9:43 p.m.
Medical personnel treated the driver of the Lexus, 20-year-old King Vanga, for the moderate injuries he sustained in the wreck. CHP determined that he was under the influence when he hit the other car.
Meanwhile, authorities arrested the Atwater man following the collision. They soon booked him into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicle manslaughter.
