Deadly DUI Collision on Carrillo Street Sunday
Santa Barbara, CA (November 15, 2021) – Police arrested 24-year-old Jose Fermin Lopez Jr. in relation with a fatal car crash that occurred on Carrillo Street.
According to the Noozhawk, Jose Lopez Jr. was behind the wheel of a Nissan sedan heading west on Carrillo Street. When the Nissan approached the intersection at Miramonte Drive, he reportedly drifted into oncoming traffic in the other lane. The Nissan ended up crashing head-on into a Mercedes sedan.
The catastrophic incident took place on November 13, Saturday.
Shortly after 8:20 p.m., emergency crews arrived at the location. First responders found the driver of the Mercedes unconscious. Despite life-saving measures, the motorist succumbed to his injuries and died. Authorities continue to withhold the identity of the deceased pending confirmation.

Investigators later mentioned Jose Lopez Jr. showed signs of intoxication. Given that, police arrested the man on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
Further investigation on the unfortunate incident is ongoing.
