Man Hit by Car in Fatal Crash on Olive Drive in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (May 15, 2018) — Jose Manuel Cardenas Jr., 46, died Monday night in a pedestrian accident at Olive Drive and Victor Street in northwest Bakersfield, according to a report by Bakersfield Now.
A driver struck the man about 10:30 p.m. outside of a marked crosswalk. When police arrived, the man was found lying in the street. The motorist who struck him stopped and was cooperating with the investigation. One lane in each direction of Olive Drive was closed down for the investigation.
Fatal Accident Investigation
Police are reviewing the evidence and trying to determine what happened. Although the pedestrian was outside a crosswalk when he was found by police, this does not mean that the victim was to blame for the collision. Indeed, a driver is required to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians at all times in the roadway. Also, the impact of the crash may have thrown the victim outside of a crosswalk. This is part of the police investigation as they seek to find out who is at fault.
