Man Killed in Crash on Highway 99E Identified
TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. (May 23, 2022) — Jose Nazarro Arellano, 52, of Gridley, died in a crash on Highway 99E south of Rowles Road and two others suffered major injuries.
The collision occurred about 2:55 p.m. on May 13th, according to news reports.
Additionally, one of the drivers, identified as Rebecca Ann Bryant, 46, of Cottonwood, was arrested on vehicular manslaughter charges.
Bryant was reportedly driving a white 2015 Toyota Corolla northbound on Highway 99E. She attempted to pass vehicles in front and moved into the southbound lanes directly in front of a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Alejandro Arrellano, 49, of Gridley.
Arrellano took evasive action and moved his vehicle into the northbound lanes where he and his passenger Jose Nazarro Arellano collided head-on into a 2002 Cadillac El Dorado, according to the California Highway Patrol Red Bluff office.
Felton Price III, 49, of Chico, was driving the Cadillac and suffered major injuries in the collision. Paramedics transported him by ambulance to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Meanwhile, Alejandro Arrellano also suffered major injuries and he was taken to the same hospital. However, his passenger, Jose Arellano died at the scene.
Following the collision, Rebecca Ann Bryant reportedly fled the scene. However, police later located her on Trefoil Lane in Cottonwood and arrested her on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
The CHP is investigating the crash.
