LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 29, 2018) — Jose Ortiz Prieto, 45, died early Tuesday morning when he was struck by a motorist in the 4500 block of Avalon Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner.
The fatal crash took place about midnight and Prieto died at the scene at 12:09 a.m. at 45th Street. The victim was reportedly crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk. The driver stopped and cooperated with police at the scene.
A full investigation is underway to determine liability.

At this time, it’s unknown whether the driver will be held responsible for this man’s death. Typically, insurance companies will try to blame the pedestrian for being outside of a marked crosswalk. The reality is, pedestrians always have the right-of-way in the roadway.
