Jose Prado Diaz, 25, ID’d as Suspect in Modesto Fatal DUI Crash
MODESTO, CA (July 26, 2022) – Authorities detained Jose Prado Diaz after a DUI crash that killed a woman in Modesto.
Police determined that the 25-year-old Ceres man was under the influence when the fatal collision occurred last week on Friday.
The incident began when Jose Prado Diaz was driving south on Morgan Road, north of East Whitmore Avenue, in Modesto. At the same time, several vehicles were waiting at a red light.
He then failed to stop in time for the stopped cars. In the process, his vehicle slammed into the rear of a Ford Explorer stopped for traffic at the intersection.
1 Killed, 3 Injured in Wreck
Police said both cars then collided with two more waiting vehicles in the area. The Modesto Bee wrote that the wreck took place on July 22 at about 10:15 p.m. at the border of the city and Ceres.
The back seat passenger of the Ford, 80-year-old Ceres resident Avina Loreto, died at the scene. Three other adults in the Explorer sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the accident.
Paramedics rushed the patients to hospitals for treatment. The report did not disclose their names and condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police added that Jose Prado Diaz survived the crash with moderate injuries. Medical personnel took him for further aid.
Officers soon arrested and charged Jose Prado Diaz with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI. The Modesto DUI crash is still under investigation.
