(Updated) 2-Vehicle Fatal Crash on Highway 180
SANGER, Calif. (July 16, 2020) — Jose Rodriguez-Gonzalez, 32, of Sanger, died and one person was injured after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night near Sanger, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place just after 10 p.m. on Highway 180 and Academy Avenue in Fresno County, police said.
Mr. Rodriguez-Gonzalez was driving a Honda Civic was heading north on Academy Avenue when it collided with a Nissan pickup possibly traveling eastbound on Highway 180.
One of the vehicles reportedly failed to stop at the traffic signal, but investigators are trying to determine which vehicle was at fault.
The CHP noted that there were tire friction marks coming from the eastbound lanes of the 180 that went through the intersections indicating that the vehicle’s driver hit his brakes prior to the collision. There was also impact on the left side of the Honda Civic that indicated to police that the driver was heading northbound.
Paramedics pronounced the driver of the Honda dead at the scene, but the man driving the Nissan was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno with undisclosed injuries.
