1 Killed, 1 Injured in Bakersfield Crash at Bena and Neumarkel Roads
BAKERSFIELD (June 15, 2020) – Officials detained the alleged DUI driver in a crash that killed one person and injured another at Bena and Neumarkel roads early Sunday.
California Highway Patrol determined that 26-year-old Jose Toro was under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred on June 14.
The incident began when Toro was driving a 2016 BMW west on Bena Road, approaching Neumarkel Road. At the same time, a 2003 Subaru WRX was going east on Bena.

Officers said the McFarland man then swerved into the opposing lane, directly into the path of the Subaru. The two vehicles ultimately collided head-on.
Paramedics responded and pronounced the 21-year-old man operating the Subaru dead at the scene. Medical personnel took his 19-year-old passenger to Kern Medical Center with minor injuries.
The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released. According to 23 ABC News and Kern Golden Empire, the fatal wreck took place at around 2:20 a.m.
Meanwhile, officers later arrested Toro after being hospitalized with minor wounds. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
