1 Killed, 5 Injured in Temecula Car Accident on Rancho California Road
TEMECULA (June 2, 2019) – An alleged DUI driver was arrested after a crash that killed a teen and injured three people along Rancho California Road Saturday evening, June 1.
The suspect 19-year-old Jose A. Zazueta was allegedly speeding and driving recklessly west on Rancho California Road when his 2015 BMW 328i when he swerved into the eastbound lanes.
California Highway Patrol said the BMW then hit a 2005 Toyota Corolla head-on, causing the Toyota to spin out of control. The accident occurred at about 6:20 p.m., just east of Via Santa Rosa.
According to The Press Enterprise, a 15-year old girl from Murrieta sitting in the front passenger seat of the Corolla suffered traumatic blunt force injuries and died at the scene.
Suspect Jose Zazueta, 19, Arrested For DUI
The driver of the Corolla and another occupant, both 18-year old Murrieta men, were rushed to the hospital with major injuries.
Meanwhile, the BMW went off the road and plunged 150 feet down an embankment, coming to a stop n its roof. Zazueta and his three passengers sustained moderate to major injuries.
CHP affirmed that Zazueta was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wreck. The Fallbrook man was later arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and felony vehicular manslaughter.
He will be booked at the Southwest Detention Facility in Murrieta after being released from Inland Valley Hospital. The incident remains under investigation.
