Fatal Traffic Collision on Highway 154
Santa Ynez, CA (October 12, 2022) – Joseph Anthony Nunez, a 40-year-old man, died following a car accident that occurred on Highway 154 Sunday morning.
The Lompoc Record News reported Nunez was behind the wheel of a 2013 Ford C-Max compact multipurpose vehicle traveling on the highway in Santa Ynez. When the motorist approached the area near Meadowvale Road, Nunez apparently swerved into the westbound side of the highway to avoid hitting a slowing vehicle ahead of him. Officials said the Ford C-Max ended up crashing into the rear of a westbound 2020 BMW X5.
The force from the impact caused Nunez to lose control of his vehicle. According to the article published online, the Ford C-Max continued moving; and only came to a stop after collided heading with a 2008 Toyota Highlander.
Shortly after 10:25 a.m., rescue teams arrived at the site. Responding paramedics found Nunez unconscious. Despite life-saving measures performed by paramedics, the driver sadly succumbed to his injuries and died. The California Highway Patrol confirmed the identity of the deceased as Joseph Anthony Nunez, of Santa Maria.
4 Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Accident in Santa Ynez
Authorities added four other people sustained injuries as a result of the wreck.
At this time, detectives continue to investigate the precise cause of the deadly accident that happened in Santa Ynez.
