Woman Killed in Collision Near Dunaway Road
Imperial County, CA (November 27, 2022) – Police arrested 24-year-old Joseph Zhou following a fatal DUI crash that occurred on the Interstate 8 Freeway.
On November 20, two cars collided on I-8 just west of Dunaway Road. The Desert Review News reported Zhou was driving a 2022 Toyota Tacoma heading west on the freeway. Due to alleged intoxication, Zhou crossed over the center median and drove into the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8. Our sources indicated the Toyota ended up crashing head-on against a 2020 Kia Forte driven by a 20-year-old female.
Emergency crews responded to the accident scene shortly after 5:53 p.m. The article published online mentioned the woman driving the Kia suffered fatal injuries as a result of the wreck. The Imperial County Coroner’s Office continue to withhold the identity of the deceased pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
DUI Suspect Arrested After Deadly Car Accident on 8 Freeway
Meanwhile, Zhou reportedly suffered major injuries as a result of the collision. Investigators later determined the man was intoxicated at the time of the crash. Police placed Joseph Zhou under arrest for felony DUI causing injury or death and, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
