Motorcyclist Joshua Boykin, 45, in Jamestown Crash on Highway 120
JAMESTOWN (March 14, 2019) – A man driving a motorcycle was struck and killed by a car on Highway 120 west of Jamestown Wednesday evening.
The California Highway Patrol said that the victim, a 45-year-old man identified as Joshua Cody Boykin from Ceres, sustained life-threatening injuries and, despite wearing a full-face helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses said a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle occurred on the highway near O’Byrnes Ferry Road at around 6:25 in the evening.
Reports by The Modesto Bee stated that Boykin was riding his Yamaha motorcycle in the eastbound lane of the highway when he decided to overtake slower-moving car.
Motorcycle Crash on Highway 120 Near O’Byrnes Ferry
After passing one vehicle, he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 25-year-old Jeffrey Smith from Turlock. Both the victim and the driver were trying to overtake slow traffic when they collided.
The Yamaha then swerved across the eastbound lane and onto the shoulder where Boykin went up an embankment and was thrown off his bike.
Responding officials found the victim near the dirt and grass shoulder unconscious and was declared dead at the scene.
Smith and his passenger, 24-year-old Anycze Munson from Turlock, were unharmed in the wreck. Police are investigating the events leading to the tragic crash.
