Boyle Heights Suspected Hit-and-Run Driver Arrest
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 5, 2022) – Police arrested, Juan Francisco Ramirez, 23, on suspicion of hit-and-run after he turned himself in for allegedly leaving a fatal crash scene in Boyle Heights.
The 23-year-old man admitted to police he was responsible for the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian about 10 p.m. on Saturday night near Whittier Boulevard and Esperanza Street, police said.
Juan Francisco Ramirez was arrested at the Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Community Police Station about 9:55 p.m. on Monday night.
Also, he reportedly told to authorities he was the driver who struck Francisco Rosas Garcia, 58, police said.
Garcia was walking northbound in the crosswalk on Esperanza Street. A westbound Ford Fusion driven by Ramirez hit him and reportedly fled the scene.
Paramedics responded and pronounced Garcia dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.
Police arrested Ramirez on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. His bail is $50,000.
Meanwhile, authorities also impounded the involved Ford Fusion for evidence.
