2-Vehicle Collision on Freeway in Jurupa Valley
JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2025) — Juan Lucas, 47, of Montclair, died in a Jurupa Valley crash Tuesday morning on the 60 Freeway, just east of Etiwanda Avenue in Riverside County.
Caltrans issued a SigAlert roughly an hour after the collision took place at 5:45 a.m. on Jan. 7th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The drivers of a white Kia Optima and a silver 4-door Toyota sedan were involved.
Paramedics from CAL Fire Riverside responded to help those injured. However, one of the vehicles involved had major damage and its occupant identified as Juan Lucas suffered fatal injuries.
It’s unknown at this time what led up to the accident on the eastbound State Route 60.
The CHP dispatch report stated the Toyota sedan wound up facing sideways across the number two traffic lane. Meanwhile, the driver of the white Kia Optima was on the right shoulder with complaints of pain.
Traffic on SR-60 backed up west of the Interstate 15 Freeway and police closed down the transition from the I-15 to the eastbound 60 Freeway.
The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner identified the man who died on its website.
Finally, investigators from the Riverside CHP are working to determine fault for the crash.
