Man Killed in Car Accident on 10 Freeway is Identified
POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2021) — Juan Miranda, 41, of South Gate, is identified as the motorist killed in a Jan. 24 collision on the Interstate 10 Freeway in Pomona.
The multi-vehicle collision happened just after 12 a.m. when a driver in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu rear-ended a disabled 2018 Honda Accord. The Honda was stopped in the westbound No. 4 lane. Next, the Honda was pushed forward into three people who had exited their car.
Juan Miranda was among them and died in the crash. Velma Soto, 39, and Luis Miranda, 20, also from South Gate, suffered major injuries and were rushed to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.
The Honda eventually came to a rest on its side near the Kellogg Drive off ramp. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Malibu became disabled in the number two lane of the westbound freeway. Finally, a second accident took place when a passing 2016 Chevrolet Cruze traveling collided with the stalled Malibu.
Several people were hurt in the collision including the driver of the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze identified as 32-year-old Christaphore Ruffin, of Barstow. He was treated for minor injuries.
Additionally, the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu who triggered the multi-vehicle crash fled the scene. Police continue to investigate the crash.
