Juan Morales, 18, Killed in Ventura Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 101
VENTURA, CA (December 23, 2021) – Juan Morales was killed after a DUI wrong-way crash on Highway 101 in Ventura.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the 18-year-old Ojai man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Saturday.
The incident began when Juan J. Morales was driving a 2008 Nissan 350z north on Highway 101 in Ventura. At the same time, a 2007 Honda Accord was traveling south in the northbound lanes.
The wrong-way driver, Jesus Manuel Calles, slammed head-on into the Nissan. The California Highway Patrol said the two cars crashed near California Street.
Jesus Calles, 29, Arrested For DUI
In the process, a 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck going north struck the Nissan. The Ventura County Star and KVTA News wrote that the accident happened on December 18 shortly after 3 a.m.
Juan Morales died at the scene of the crash. His passenger, an 18-year-old Ojai man, and the two occupants of the GMC sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the wreck.
Paramedics rushed the victims to the Los Robles Regional Medical Center for treatment. Medical personnel took Jesus Calles to the Ventura County Medical Center with major injuries.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that Jesus Calles was under the influence when he hit the other car. They soon arrested the 29-year-old Santa Barbara man on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
