Juan Moralez, 50, Killed in Turlock Hit-and-Run Crash on Lander Avenue
TURLOCK, CA (May 4, 2021) – Juan Moralez was killed after a hit-and-run crash on Lander Avenue in Turlock.
Police identified the 50-year-old Turlock man as the victim of the fatal bicycle accident which occurred on Monday, May 3.
The incident happened when Juan Moralez was riding a bicycle east across Lander Avenue at Sixth Street in Turlock. At the same time, a white 2009 GMC pickup truck was speeding in the area.
Police said the GMC then hit the bicyclist as he crossed the 400 block of Lander Avenue. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the rider left lying on the ground.
He sustained several spinal fractures, multiple fractures throughout his body and a crushed skull as a result of the collision. The crash took place at around 12:30 a.m.
Bicycle Rider Hit by Speeding Car
His family members created a GoFundMe page to help cover his funeral expenses. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the male driver of the pickup did not stop to render aid to the victim and fled the scene.
Witnesses went after the motorist but he refused to stop. He lost control of his car and then crashed on Crows Landing Road. The man abandoned his truck and ran away.
Authorities soon located and arrested him on charges of hit-and-run causing injury and vehicular manslaughter. The Turlock hit-and-run collision is still under investigation.
