Juan Muniz III, 22, Killed in Oceanside DUI Crash on North Coast Highway
OCEANSIDE (January 29, 2020) – A pedestrian killed after an alleged DUI collision along North Coast Highway early Sunday has been identified.
San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said 22-year-old Juan Muniz III, a resident of Kingsville, Texas, died following the accident January 26.
The incident began when Muniz, Marine stationed in Camp Pendleton, was crossing North Coast Highway near the intersection of Sportfisher Drive.
According to reports by San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, police affirmed that a vehicle headed northbound on the highway then struck the victim.
William Vaden, 31, Arrested For DUI
Paramedics responded to the scene and found Muniz lying unresponsive on the ground as a result of the collision. He suffered severe injuries upon impact.
He was immediately taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla where he was later pronounced dead. The fatal incident took place at about 1:10 a.m.
Meanwhile the driver involved, 31-year-old William Vaden, stopped after hitting Muniz. Police determined that he was driving under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred.
Authorities arrested Vaden and subsequently booked him into the Vista Detention Facility on a misdemeanor charge of DUI alcohol/drugs with a bail set at $2,500.
