Pregnant Woman Seriously Injured in Santa Maria Crash at Cook and Pine Streets
SANTA MARIA (January 5, 2020) – An alleged DUI crash seriously injured a pregnant woman in the area of Cook and Pine streets late Saturday night.
According to an article published by KEYT News, the accident took place on January 4 at around 11:30 p.m. It happened near South Broadway, or Highway 135.
Police said the incident began when a vehicle allegedly ran a red light. Its operator then collided with another car at the intersection of Cook and Pine streets.
Suspected DUI Driver Juan Najera Santos, 25, Arrested
Fire department officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found the driver of the car that was hit suffering from major injuries upon impact.
Medical personnel rushed the victim, a pregnant woman, to Marian Regional Medical Center in stable condition. Her name was not released.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the male motorist who drove through the intersection was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs when the collision occurred.
Officers arrested the suspect, 25-year-old Juan Najera Santos, for a DUI traffic collision with injuries. They booked the Santa Maria man at the Santa Barbara County Jail.
