Palm Springs Man, 41, Killed in Car Accident
INDIO, Calif. (July 15, 2024) -— Juan Reyes, 41, of Palm Springs, died early Sunday in a crash on the Interstate 10 Freeway near Jefferson Street in Indio.
The man was traveling in one of two vehicles involved in the collision at 2:39 .m. on July 14th, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
It happened on the westbound I-10 Freeway, roughly a half mile east of Jefferson Street.
A suspected DUI driver in a 2022 Jeep Wrangler was allegedly traveling in the wrong direction. The Jeep was heading eastbound in the westbound lane of the I-10.
Meanwhile, Juan Reyes was driving his 2024 Toyota Corolla when he reportedly saw the oncoming Jeep and attempted to avoid a crash. The driver turned to the right and entered another lane, but the Jeep also tried to avoid the crash, however, it crashed into the front of the Toyota.
Paramedics from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department responded and confirmed the man’s death at the scene, but two other people with moderate injuries were taken by ground ambulances to a hospital.
Police later arrested the driver of the Jeep on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to News Channel 3.
The crash cause is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
