Juan Rodriguez and Lionel Rodriguez Victims in Sacramento Fatal Crash
SACRAMENTO, CA (December 6, 2022) – A crash killed Juan Rodriguez and Lionel Rodriguez on the Interstate 5 in Sacramento.
The coroner’s office identified the brothers as victims of the fatal collision which took place on Tuesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said a Sacramento police detective struck Juan Carlos Enriquez Rodriguez and Lionel Enriquez Rodriguez.
The incident began when the white Dodge pickup Lionel Rodriguez, 32, was driving became disabled on the right shoulder of the southbound Interstate 5.
Police Hits Pedestrians on Interstate 5
Juan Carlos Rodriguez, 33, in a maroon Toyota SUV came and stopped on the left shoulder of the Sutterville Road on-ramp. Both men exited their cars and then stood on the left side of the pickup.
The on-duty detective approached and hit the rear of the truck with an unmarked Ford Fusion. In the process, the Dodge struck the pedestrians.
The Sacramento Bee and KCRA News wrote that the accident occurred at around 6:15 a.m. Both Juan Carlos Rodriguez, of Sacramento; and Lionel Rodriguez, of Simi Valley, died as a result of the crash.
Meanwhile, CHP added that the detective stopped and stayed at the scene following the wreck. Officers forced the southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 to shut down for a time after the incident.
The cause of the Sacramento crash is still under investigation.
