DUI Hit-and-Run Driver in Chowchilla Fatal Crash ID’d as Juan Manuel Ventura
CHOWCHILLA, CA (April 23, 2021) – Authorities detained Juan Ventura after a fatal DUI hit-and-run crash in Chowchilla.
The suspect told the detectives that the 26-year-old Madera man intentionally wanted to kill someone during the collision on Friday afternoon.
Police determined that Juan Manuel Ventura was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he struck a man riding a bicycle. He hit the bicyclist near Orange Avenue and 5th Street in Chowchilla.

ABC 30 News and Merced Sun Star wrote that the incident occurred at around 5 pm. Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and found the rider left lying unresponsive on the ground.
Medical personnel then pronounced him dead at the scene. The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, Juan Ventura fled the area after hitting the cyclist. Police located, arrested and soon booked him into the Madera County jail for homicide.
