Juana Torres de Calderon, 53, Killed in Kern County Crash on Highway 65
KERN COUNTY, CA (February 28, 2023) – Juana Torres de Calderon was killed after a DUI crash on Highway 65 in Kern County.
The coroner’s office identified the 53-year-old Bakersfield woman as one of the victims in the fatal collision earlier this month.
The incident happened on February 14 when Juana Torres de Calderon was driving a Toyota south on Highway 65 in Kern County. At the same time, a 2022 Dodge Ram was going at about 55 mph northbound.
The Dodge then crossed over the solid double yellow line partially into the southbound lane. The Ram went directly into the path of the Toyota and struck the car head-on.
William Pederson, 52, Arrested For DUI
The California Highway Patrol said the two vehicles collided north of Famoso Road. The Bakersfield Californian and Bakersfield Now reported that the wreck took place at around 3:50 a.m.
Juana Torres de Calderon died as a result of the crash. Her passenger, Bakersfield resident Lucy Martinez, survived the accident with moderate injuries.
Paramedics rushed the 50-year-old woman to Kern Medical for treatment. Meanwhile, the male driver of the Dodge obtained minor injuries following the incident.
CHP determined that the 52-year-old Porterville man, William Pederson, was under the influence of alcohol when he struck the women. Officers soon arrested him for DUI and other charges.
