Judith Blankenfeld, 77, Killed in Long Beach Crash on 405 Freeway Near Lakewood
LONG BEACH (April 16, 2019) – A woman killed after a traffic collision on the 405 Freeway Monday night has been identified as Judith Blankenfeld.
The 77-year-old Hilo, Hawaii resident died after the accident which was reported at about 9:40 p.m., south of Lakewood Boulevard.
California Highway Patrol said the incident began when the driver of a 2018 Tesla Tesla made an unsafe turning movement on the southbound 405 freeway.
According to reports by The Press Telegram and NBC Los Angeles, the car then slammed into raised concrete curb at the end of the Lakewood Boulevard on-ramp.

The Tesla went onto the right shoulder and struck an unoccupied 2011 Chevrolet. The right rear passenger door was ripped off the Tesla.
In the process, Blankenfeld was ejected onto the No. 5 southbound lane. The woman was ultimately hit by a 2008 BMW driven.
CHP affirmed that Blankenfeld was pronounced dead at the scene. The man operating the Tesla and another passenger, both from San Clemente, sustained minor injuries following the crash.
The names and condition of the wounded parties at this time were not disclosed. The incident remains under investigation.
