Judy Appel, 53; and Alison Bernstein, 54, Victims in Berkeley Crash
BERKELEY (January 5, 2019) – Two women were critically injured after a traffic accident along Martin Luther King Jr. Way on Saturday, according to The Mercury News and NBC Bay Area.
The victims have been identified as 53-year-old Judy Appel and 54-year-old Alison Bernstein. Both are from Berkeley.
As per the reports, police said Appel and Berstein were crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Way when for an unknown reason they were struck by a vehicle.
The car was traveling north when it hit the two pedestrians. The collision occurred just after midnight near the corner of Stuart Street.

Both victims were immediately taken to a local hospital where they were listed in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the 81-year-old Berkeley resident stopped after hitting the women and cooperated with the authorities.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation. Reports indicated that Appel is the president of the Berkeley Unified School District board while Bernstein is an attorney with the Office of the State Public Defender.
