1 Dead, Several Injured in Crash at Oakland Bay Bridge
OAKLAND, Calif. (May 29, 2019) —Juhmoni Thompson Crain, 23, of Hayward, was killed and several others were injured early Wednesday when a box truck crashed into the back of a BART commuter bus on the Bay Bridge, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau.
The California Highway Patrol reported the crash at 4:28 a.m., just east of Treasure Island in the westbound lanes of the Interstate 80. The box truck suffered major front-end damage and overturned onto its side in the slow lane. Crain was one of three people injured in the collision, but the others survived. A man driving the truck was trapped inside and extricated by arriving firefighters.
The two others who were injured in the crash were in the truck. There were also injuries among the passengers who were aboard the bus. The crash took place in the far right lane of the freeway.
Paramedics responded and rushed all three occupants of the truck to the hospital where one of them later died. A report in East Bay Times stated that the BART bus was transporting commuters displaced due to work being done on the Transbay Tube.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
